Today Is The Day To Start Losing Weight – No More Excuses

Monday, January 25th, 2010

In my late teens I was far to over-weight and was not happy about it. Then I would write a list of all of the ways in which I was going to lose weight – the problem being that I would then not act on them.

I suppose that I was obese due to the fact that I comfort ate because I had a stutter. The stuttering treatment on offer was not working and I could just see no prospect of me to ever stop stuttering.

These are the reasons I would make at that stage of my life, to put off my attempts at losing weight:

I am too tired. In the morning, I would wake up with very good intentions. In my mind I would make a vow that I would make a start on the fitness work after I had returned home from work – this would start with a run around my local area for a few miles. I would then do some fitness work at home such as using the dumb bell weights which I had bought many months ago. I would also try a few press ups and also start watching what I was eating.

After work, I would return home and would then make up the excuse that I am too tired. Instead of going for a jog today, I would start my fitness regime tomorrow etc. Working for a composite door company, selling external doors, was far from easy and I would come home very tired. This is perhaps one reason why I now work for a group of DVD authoring experts lol.

My body is aching. This was a regular excuse. I was forever talking to myself – I suppose I was trying to convince myself that the exercise would do me more harm than good.

It could be dangerous. When thinking in more depth about my great plan to go running I then started to convince myself that it could, in reality, be quite dangerous. What if I come across a madman with a knife?

I eventually after many years decided to stop making up these excuses. I had to be determined to not only start up a fitness regime but to stick to it. It was not easy at all but after quite a long time I reached a weight which I was happy with.

” Surprising Obesity Statistics In USA”

Friday, November 27th, 2009

Take a look at these statistics.

Obesity statistics in USA Reach Epidemic Proportions

•    58 Million Overweight; 40 Million Obese; 3 Million morbidly Obese
•    Eight out of 10 over 25′s Overweight
•    78% of American’s not achieving basic activity level recommendations
•    25% completely Sedentary
•    76% increase in Type II diabetes in adults 30-40 yrs old since 1990

Back in 1999 they warned that if obesity continued to be a sure problem it was anticipated that it would rise to epidemic levels by the year 2020. So I am not aware of what happened!! The obesity statistics in the western world is also going up at a startling rate. Back in 1999 people thought that if obesity continued to be a complex problem it was foreseen that it would reach epidemic levels by the year 2020. So I don’t know what came to pass!!

Have a look at how you get that weight off and  Start Healthy Living Today

One way to prevent this issue is to make people aware of the problems of being overweight or obese. Which is, undoubtedly, not going to be smooth.

Here are some illnesses that you are
putting yourself in threat of if you are carrying a lot of superfluous pounds:

1. heart disease
2. stroke
3. diabetes
4. cancer
5. arthritis
6. hypertension

Losing unwanted weight helps to block the entry of and control these diseases.

It is better to rely on a healthy weight reduction option which will show lifetime consequences. You have to set attainable goals and not expect to cut down a lot of pounds in a brief span of time.

Mentioned below are some tips on how you can lose that unwanted body fat the healthy way:

1.   Refrain from starving your self.

The key to a healthier way of putting off weight is: Do not “diet”.

You may seem content and believe that you are losing those non essential flabs on your belly and thighs by skipping meals. But remember that this would not be sustainable. Your physique cannot tolerate having insufficient supply of food to support the energy that you use up daily.

2.  Start your day properly

Doctors always say that breakfast is the really most important meal of the day. Have a healthy morning meal in the morning to activate your metabolism.

3.  Eat little healthy meals frequently.

Five smaller fractions of snacks per day is effective than three hearty meals. Eating regularly, and in small portions, can prevent over-eating. This will also boost your metabolism and make calories expend faster.

4.  Finalize how much weight you want to put off.

Keep your targets sensible. In the long run, it is virtually not at all possible for you to lose 40 pounds in a half month. Have a resolution that you want to eat healthy to remain healthy from now on.

5.  Drink many litres of water.

Your body asks for enough water to burn calories and keep your cells energetic and healthy.

6.  Do not eat too much sugar.

Plan your food around lots of raw items, some bread, rice or pasta for that carbo quantity that you need, plus lean meat and protein rich-foods. Sweets, sodas and pies and the likes should be occasional indulgences only.

7.  Keep a note on your fat intake.

Fat is not the reason to being obese. You need this to keep your weight at the correct level.

Assuredly there is such a thing as healthy fats. Olive, peanuts and canola oil are good in them. Tuna, salmon and mackerel have omega-3 fats which is just perfect for the heart.

8.  Be regular at Exercise.

Relinquish your car if you are only moving a few blocks from home, make use of the stairs instead of the elevator, jog, cycle or skate. Do these activities and other domestic chores if you are a bit too lazy to go to the gym and take exercise classes.

Make sure that you do this correctly and you will not even believe that you are already putting off pounds with these easy activities.

Regardless of how many pounds you plan or need to lose. What is critical is that you fix realistic goals for yourself.

Eat well, drink lots of water, have enough sleep and physical activity. This will provide you a greater chance of cutting weight and improving your health, which would result in a new, healthier you.

Knowledge is the key and we all have to to be enlightened to the dangers we face if we slide down the slippery slope to obesity.

Am I Overweight?

Friday, July 31st, 2009

It is no accident that you have found this article at this Web site — you more than likely are overweight, or at least you feel as though you are. In the title of this article is a question that you probably have asked yourself: Am I Overweight? Very subjective, the answer is often based as much on feelings and emotions as on actual data.. In scientific and medical terms:

* You are overweight if you weigh more than your recommended body weight range in the chart you can see on the Am I Overweight page. Another measure is the Body Mass Index (BMI) table on the same page, a figure that represents the percentage of your body weight that is due to fat. Divide your weight in kilograms by the square of your height in meters to make the calculation. It is BMI = Kg / (m)2 in algebraic terms. Ratings between 26 and 30 are considered overweight, and ratings between 20 and 25 are considered healthy.

* But BMI may overestimate body fat or inaccurately estimate total body fat in muscular persons or those losing muscle, according to the National Heart Blood and Lung Institute. For example, older persons often have lost muscle mass and, therefore, have more fat for a given BMI than younger persons do. That’s why waist measurement is often checked as well. Too much body fat in the stomach area also increases disease risk, which is another reason. Waist size of more than 35 inches in women and more than 40 inches in men is considered too large.

* If you are more than 20 percent over your recommended body weight range, you are considered obese. For example, the chart indicates that a 5’6” person’s recommended weight range goes as high as 154 pounds. Twenty percent of 154 (154 X .2) equals 30.8. Rounded up to 31 and added to the base weight of 154, it would indicate that a person who is 5’6” and weighs 185 is considered to be obese. BMI ratings between 30 and 39 are also considered to be indicative of obesity.

* Morbid obesity is defined as being 100 pounds or more over the recommended body weight range, or having a BMI rating of 40 or more.

How Can You Tell If You Need To Lose Weight?

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

Are you one of the many millions of men and women who look in the mirror daily and say to themselves “I must lose that excess weight”? Practically everybody has done this at some time and in many instances you really do need to lose some weight. However, this is not always the case and so how do you know whether or not you really do need to go on a diet?

One great problem with weight gain is that it has a tendency to creep up on you when you are not paying attention and this is increasingly being witnessed particularly in countries such as North America where obesity has now become an epidemic. Because however your weight often rises slowly over several months, you generally simply do not notice the increase in terms of changes to your appearance and are only conscious of it when you jump on the bathroom scales. Therefore, it is good practice to get yourself into the habit of checking your weight on a regular basis (about once each month is normally sufficient) and when you see that it has risen noticeably then it is time to lose that excess weight.

There are differences of opinion about just what constitutes obesity but for our purposes here if your weight has increased by in excess of perhaps thirty pounds or so then you are most likely heading for obesity and a myriad of health problems which accompany it.

The next sign that you should to lose weight is when a friend tells you that you are overweight. Now it is possible that you will be offended when a friend informs you that you need to go on a diet but remember that they probably found it hard to pluck up the courage to tell you and are also practically always showing a heartfelt concern for your state of health and not passing comment about the way you look.

Another sign that you are putting on too much weight is seen when you begin experiencing difficulty with normally easy tasks like climbing a flight of stairs or running to catch a bus and find yourself getting short of breath. Of course this is not necessarily the result of carrying too much weight and could be caused by other health problems, however you would be surprised at just how often the cause is indeed weight. If this happens your body is beginning to sound its alarm bells and these should most definitely not be ignored.

One last and very common, although frequently ignored, sign of weight gain is quite simply discovering that your clothes no longer fit as they used to. A bit of a tight waistband after Christmas is usual for many of us but when it continues getting tighter and tighter and you find yourself buying bigger and bigger clothes every time you go shopping then it is time to diet before your growing waist stretches both your clothes and your store card.

These are of course just some examples of the numerous signs that you are overweight to the point at which you need to take steps to correct the situation. Excessive weight has a tendency to creep up on you slowly and it is all too easy to simply not notice it at all. However the secret to looking and feeling good is quite simple – know your ideal weight and jump on the bathroom scales once in a while to ensure that you are not getting too heavy.

Obesity, and particularly teenage obesity, today is a rising problem and one which has serious medical complications. It is also wise therefore to learn how to calculate BMI which is the medical indicator for obesity.
