Liposuction Cosmetic Surgery

Friday, January 8th, 2010

The purpose of liposuction cosmetic surgery is to remove excess fatty tissue from body and to improve the contours of your body.

So, who exactly is a good candidate for liposuction cosmetic surgery? Well, you are, if any of the following apply to you…

-You have excess fat areas in the neck, arms, back, breasts, ankles, calves, thighs, saddlebags, love handles, hips, buttocks or stomach.
-Despite prolonged exercising and dieting, certain fatty deposits around your body prove impossible to remove.
-You have areas with a minimum amount of excess skin, and good elasticity, since liposuction does not remove skin along with the fat.

If you decide to go ahead with having liposuction surgery, then the first step is to find yourself a plastic surgeon. They will then discuss the procedure with you, ask what look you would like to achieve, and tell you how close to that look surgery will be able to take you. There is no need to hold back or feel shy during this consultation, in fact, the more frank and honest you are, the more likely you are to be pleased with the end results.

You will want to make note of prior surgeries, medical conditions you have now, or that you have had before, along with any medications and allergies. Be sure to provide complete information, since some conditions can affect your eligibility for surgery.

So, should be eligible, and have found a surgeon that you are happy with, then the next step is to familiarize yourself with how liposuction cosmetic surgery actually works. Basically, what happens is that a tube, or canula, is inserted into the areas of your body where fat has deposited itself, so that a pump can be used to create a vacuum that allows the fatty tissues to literally be sucked out of you. There are some slight variations to this method though, which may be used depending on your particular circumstances, and the specific expertise of the surgeon that you have chosen.

You do not need to overly concern yourself with the various different methods of liposuction though, as your surgeon will, having advised you and listened to your feedback, make the final decision. They will have performed liposuction many times before, so you can rest assured that they will know exactly what will be right for you.

There are generally no significant complications after liposuction cosmetic surgery, and it is one of the more common procedures that plastic surgeons perform. Most times this surgery does not cause any major problems, and you will be back to your regular schedule within about ten days after your surgery.

The results of your liposuction usually last for a long period of time, however, the healing process can be gradual, so it may take several months for you to notice the full effects of your surgery. Some slight scaring may initially be visible but, over the course of a few months, this will fade to the extent that is barely visible.
